Day Two of RLDatix\u2019s Palooza 2024 | Connected Healthcare featured discussions on the state of patient safety and the role of artificial intelligence (AI) in the future of connected healthcare operations.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the keynote address, Chief Product Officer Barbara Staruk shared how RLDatix is leveraging generative AI and large language models to streamline and automate patient safety incident reporting. With only an estimated 20% of patient safety incidents being recorded today, generative AI can make it easier for healthcare workers to log incidents, creating a safer environment for all. Staruk also offered insights into how AI could be used in the future to identify trends from incident reports, enabling better prediction and prevention of future events.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAt the end of the day, a fall is a fall, regardless of a hospital\u2019s location or size,\u201d said Staruk. \u201cReporting, understanding root cause, analyzing past incidents and learning from events will accelerate us forward in our connected healthcare ecosystem. Our goal is to enhance the human and use AI more wisely to increase efficiencies\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following Staruk\u2019s keynote, RLDatix\u2019s Chief Patient Safety & Risk Officer Tim McDonald invited a panel of national patient safety experts and advocates to the stage, including documentarian Steve Burrows, Colonel Steven Coffee, educator and advocate Carole Hemmelgarn and healthcare risk executive and lawyer Rebecca Cady. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Each shared their insights and perspectives on how the industry can collaborate to deliver innovative and empathic patient safety solutions. This included both technical and procedural advancements surrounding root cause analysis and data collection. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIf you’re not connecting your healthcare operations already, you’re behind,\u201d said Cady, who also served as the 2023 President of the American Society for Health Care Risk Management.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Panelists also shared their perspectives on opportunities to advance safety culture, with Col. Coffee highlighting the importance of representation to help identify biases and Hemmelgarn stressing the value of transparency and communication. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Panelists then opened the floor to attendees to share their stories and join the conversation about how the industry can break down the \u201cWall of Silence\u201d that pervades healthcare. Addressing this imperative, Burrows offered his experience following the medical harm he and his family endured: \u201cHonesty is courageous, and it is also contagious.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n
