Advanced patient safety management: Guided by PCAST recommendations including CANDOR

During the ASHRM 2023 annual meeting, held in Minneapolis, MN, we had the privilege of gathering a distinguished panel of experts in the field of healthcare and patient safety. Dr. Tim McDonald MD JD, Chief Patient Safety and Risk Officer at RLDatix, Martin Hatlie, JD, CEO and President of Project Patient Care and also a founding member of Patients for Patient Safety, US and Ryan Solomon, JD, MS, Vice President and General Counsel at Arkansas Children’s Hospital. In this leadership session, they shared key takeaways on the President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology (PCAST)’s report, offering a comprehensive understanding of its implications for healthcare organizations. Building upon the foundation laid by PCAST, they explored the implementation of CANDOR principles (Communication and Optimal Resolution) in the context of patient safety and provided practical insights and tools to implement PCAST recommendations and CANDOR principles within other own organizations.
