Redesigning a Culture of Safety and High Reliability—Advancing our Patient Safety Organizational Learning System Through the Kirkpatrick Framework

1 min read

Patient Safety Organizations have long served as repositories for past events. A new peer-reviewed article in The Joint Commission Journal on Quality and Patient Safety, co-authored by Timothy McDonald, Chief Patient Safety and Risk Officer at RLDatix, with safety leaders from CHOC, Nemours Children’s Health, the Institute for Healthcare Improvement and the Children’s Hospital Association, makes the case that they can be engines of proactive change.

Applying the Kirkpatrick Framework to the Child Health Patient Safety Organization, the authors draw on 565+ safety huddles and over 2,900 analyzed events to show how shared learning translates into measurable improvements in behavior, care processes and patient outcomes.
